Grocery Tips

I'm sure most of you know about it but I will just share some of grocery tips I know. If you want to save money, do grocery shopping at the end of the day because they have a lot of items on sale like meat and bread, delis, frozen items and more. They baked bread at 3-4pm and after 4pm they put almost all bread on sale.
If you are doing grocery shopping once a week, avoid shopping on weekend where shelves are mostly empty. The best day to shop is on Thursday where most of the grocery stores are refilling the shelves for the weekend's rush, they also have good discount. Check out on butter sales because you can stock it on your freezer and it will last for months.

Pendant Lighting

Last week we dine out at our favorite Filipino restaurant, we are seated on our favorite spot. While waiting for our food I happen to look on the paintings and details of the place. I look up the ceiling and noticed the beautiful pendant light above me, I right away told my husband
"that's what I want for our dining area," He said yeah you can have that. When we reach home I right away check discount lighting fixtures at www.lightingshowplace.com, and I will get the one on the photo. Although I like Victorian style lighting but I will compromise to please me and my husband.

Frugal Living

We have heard a lot of people who are now practicing frugal living. It even became a headline on our local daily newspaper here that said "frugality leads to misery."
In my case I am a frugal lady ever since I was born LOL. I know where to get quality stuff on low prices but I can tell I still have many things to learn about frugality. It's in the news the other day that people are now looking on fixing things than throwing it away, and shoe repair shop are booming too. Just in time my sandal sole crack broken and I show it to my husband on our way home just for fun (it's a good brand but I bough it cheap so no hurt feelings if it only live for couple months), when he saw the news of fixing shoes he then told me "why don't you get your sandal fix"? I said "how if he will charge me $20 to fix it and I bought it only for $15, it's not worth it, I better get new one" LOL. Frugality rules.

In these tough times it is good if we have skills in different areas, like for example, you have strong knowledge in computer skills and can work a top notch administrative assistant or posses a sales skills.
I am attending seminars that can help me gain more knowledge and use it on my job, now I am considering on attending sales training, it will help me obtain the skills and knowledge that I need on sales. I wish they will have trainings here in Hawaii. I will get the book instead.

Renew my Domain

I am using different email for my 3 blogs and mainly I only check 1 email add constantly which is my main email add and have it for 10 years now. I am aware that this is the month to renew my 2 blog domains, in fact I already renew my first domain and just waiting for Google to send me an email about the renew. I can call this blog as my main and no1 but I rarely open the email that carries this blog and I forgot what email I use to register it on Google. Until I notice that I cannot find my blog using my domain anymore, I was scrambling and checking for the malicious codes on my Html and scared-to-death that my blog was infected with virus or something. I scramble and check all my email address, good thing I still remember the password since the last time I had check my email was late last year. Thanks God because I found the reminder email from Google, I did not think twice and click right away the renew button. This is the downside when you have blog domain because you have t o renew it every year.

I have heard that having an insurance package of your house, auto, health and other stuff can make you save hundreds annually. I know that our home, auto, life and health are in different insurance company. I want us to save money so I got insurance quotes online and show it to my husband. He agreed with and we are now in the process of having are home and auto in one insurance company. I tell you, we are going to save as much as half the price we had paid last year.

As they say death will come whether we are ready or not. My answer to the title question is "absolutely NOT."
We have a retired friends in their elderly stage, they are couple and we visit them from time to time. One time we talk about lonely elderly who are confined in care homes, his opinion was, when you are done and did all the things that you want to do on earth and you are ready to go, and that's it.
In my case I am not ready to die yet because there are so many things that I want to accomplish. Like going to the places I wanted to visit, experience exotic cultures and of course taste their authentic foods. But if ever things will come short, well, it's in the hands of our creator.

Farmhouse Sinks

We planned to retire in the Philippines and have a home away from the city. We like a country style home or a farm house, so as early as now I am already looking for some home fixtures. I have seen a farmhouse sinks which is so cute and I am considering on having these one. This type of sink is perfect for a farm house or country houses. I love country house or farm house, it is so comfortable and refreshing.

New Stores

There's so many things happening on our side of the island lately. The development is focused three miles away from our place, they are expanding and building roads, buildings stores and some establishments. So last week they've started opening the stores, one of it is our much awaited wholesale store, we are member and glad that they open a branch near our place. Early morning when they open we happen to pass by and the place was jam packed and causing traffic but we are scheduled to visit the store late in the afternoon. My perspective was it's not as jam packed as the one where we used to go. But I was surprised and almost gave up, it was badly jam packed even its already past 7pm, it's so crowded inside like elbow-to-elbow and carts are bumper-to-bumper.
Actually we only go to that store mostly twice a month and the next time we go I expect it to be smooth and less crowded than the last time we went. wheww.

My hubby always freak out when someone is asking for my ID as proof that I am at legal age. Like for example when we are buying "Wine" or alcoholic beverages, the clerk at the counter always ask for my ID and it happen every time. Well the law is you have to show your ID to prove that you are not younger than 30 years old, hubby freak out because I am older than 30 and still they are asking for my ID. When we also go to Mai tai bar or Dave and Buster they also ask for my ID and after checking my it they joke on " don't lost your parent" lol.
The public bus rules is when you are teenager they will ask for your ID upon embarking the bus. One time when I took the bus I have my $2 ready on my hand, the bus driver thought I am paying only dollar which is teens fare rate and he said "let me see you ID" I was clueless and said "pardon?" while I'm inserting my 2 dollar bills on the machine and he said "never mind." I realized when I was already seated that he thought I'm a teen or something hahaha.
When counter clerks ask for my ID hubby always said, "hey she is older than me." Funny guy, he is just jealous hahahha.
At first I though they think I'm criminal because in the Philippines when they ask for your ID you might be criminal at large lol.

My brother is in his first year in collage he is taking up IT. I told him to go on nursing school but he does not like to be a nurse and my husband laugh at me because in his opinion nursing is not for male.
My brother love's computer and he ask me for a laptop, demanding brother. Since at Buy.com they always offer low prices, I have check for a laptop and found the right one for his needs. Hope he will like it and study hard, so he will have a better job and life in the future.

I love this Thin mints chocolate covered its yum, I made it last Friday. Its so yummy when you eat it the day after you bake it, husband didn't like it that much when its freshly bake but after a day he said it taste good and asked for more lol, bad husband.
Recipe from Ms Lyn's sweet memories desserts blog

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/3 cup milk (any kind)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 tsp peppermint extract

In a small bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, cocoa powder and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. With the mixer on low speed, add in the milk and the extracts. Mixture will look curdled. Gradually, add in the flour mixture until fully incorporated.
Shape dough into two logs, about 1 1/2 inches (or about 4 cm) in diameter, wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for at least 1-2 hours, until dough is very firm.
Preheat oven to 375F.
Slice dough into rounds not more than 1/4 inch thick - if they are too thick, they will not be as crisp - and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Cookies will not spread very much, so you can put them quite close together.
Bake for 13-15 minutes, until cookies are firm at the edges. Cool cookies completely on a wire rack before dipping in chocolate.

Dark Chocolate Coating
10-oz dark or semisweet chocolate
1/2 cup butter, room temperature

In a microwave safe bowl, combine chocolate and butter. Melt on high power in the microwave, stirring every 45-60 seconds, until chocolate is smooth. Chocolate should have a consistency somewhere between chocolate syrup and fudge for a thin coating.
Dip each cookie in melted chocolate, turn with a fork to coat, then transfer to a piece of parchment paper or wax paper to set up for at least 30 minutes, or until chocolate is cool and firm.
Reheat chocolate as needed to keep it smooth and easy to dip into.

Makes 3 1/2-4 dozen cookies.
