Many people has pets because they provide us with companionship, help lower our blood pressure, teach us empathy and they make us smile a little more, and when we smile more endorphins is released, which make us feel good.
But are we aware that pets can transmit diseases to us. Diseases that are passed from animals to people are called zoonotic. Some of this threat such as toxoplasmosis, it can be contracted by handling contaminated cats feces and may cause serious birth defects to unborn children. Scooping out the litter box daily ans practicing good hygiene can prevent the problem from occurring. Pregnant women can ask their significant other to scoop.
But the truth is exposure to toxoplasmosis is most likely to occur from handling undercooked or raw meat.
